here is the actual plot of yugioh. yugi takes 8 years to solve a puzzle under the assumption that it is a magic wish-granting box, and after being bullied his whole life, he asks for some friends from an evil ancient pharoah that slaughtered the team that excavated the puzzle and then he goes on another homicidal rampage and completely obliterates everyone that hurts yugi. cards were not originally a part of anything, yugioh was just a violent story about a magic box king playing punishment games. yes, he actually killed people
