In light of the recent news of a Attack On Titan live-action movie, people have been increasingly interested in the ending of this popular series by Isayama. In a recent interview Isayama stated:
“I originally wanted an ending that would leave shadows in the readers’ psychological views (this is the exact translation, but the meaning goes along the lines of leaving a pained, kind of twisted impression). For example, in the movie The Mist, there is a scene where they killed off everyone that was seen without any diffentiation (aka people killed regardless of what role/morals they had), at the time I wanted an ending similar to that. But now there’s been a lot of support since the anime, I feel as if I can’t draw such criminal-minded, malicious material, and I’m beginning to doubt if I want an ending like this as well.”
Isayama did also mention that the ideas for the endings were flexible, and when he drew he also had new characterizations and some “characters did things he never thought of”. He wants to change his original idea for the ending, but at the same time, very hesitant.
