driven mad with despair at how his business and life had taken a rapid downward spiral, the once-ler locked himself up in his mansion. his mental and physical condition quickly debilitated, to the point where the people of greenville became concerned. they broke in and dragged him out, babbling unintelligibly and bleeding profusely from self inflicted injuries. he was thrown into a mental ward, where after numerous attempts to rehabilitate him failed, it was decided they should go forward with invasive surgery. he was lobotomized and underwent extensive neurosurgery, and well, it looks like it worked, because he’s all better now! :)
